“It is my vision that Highland Springs should be a source of nourishment, growth, and rejuvenation for everyone who lives here, works here, or comes to visit,” says
Monica Lewis, director of resident life. “For our residents, this is the time to enjoy life, and all of us want to be here to help pull it all together.”
Her job description lists a wide range of responsibilities, from social work and pastoral care, to wellness and community events. However, she continually finds her role expanding in ever-widening circles.
“For the past several months, different groups have been forming,” she says. “The Red Hat Society, a theater group — people getting ready to move were making friends and settling in, which is wonderful and according to the plan of Highland Springs. It is our goal here not to assign activities and form groups for residents, but rather to facilitate and support activities that are resident driven.
“I view Highland Springs as a window of opportunity, and already, people are embracing the chance to use their creativity and ingenuity to the fullest. My hope is that people will follow their dreams and find new ideas — and stay healthy and happy along the way.”
Lewis brings more than 20 years of management, administration, and patient care experience to her position as director of resident life. Monica graduated from Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth with a bachelors in psychology, and then earned her masters degree in clinical psychology at Newport University in California.
