As Director of Resident Life, Monica Lewis is in charge of wellness, fitness, events, resident services, pastoral care, and more. Basically, it’s her job to be certain that everyone at Highland Springs is healthy, happy, and having a good time.

If these last few months are any indications, her job is going to be a snap.

“Groups of friends started forming almost immediately, and Fun Fridays — informal meetings held here at the Welcome Center — were up and running back in June,” says Lewis. “A Red Hat Society has formed, a genealogy group, and a theater group that will be attending various performances throughout the city. Our future residents are eager to meet each other and get moving. This is a sign of things to come — very good things to come.”

As in all Erickson communities, these activities are resident driven, with individuals forming groups of interest and community personnel providing support.

“These groups and activities will reflect the interests of the residents, not prepackaged activities designed for them,” continued Lewis. “Individuals are already calling in with suggestions for groups. I have heard talk about golf, Bible study, poker — whatever they want, they can do. And, we will plan other seminars and performances when Highland Springs is open, and we can determine the needs and likes of the residents.”
