With the completion of the roundabout at Davidson Road and Britton Parkway, traffic to the Hickory Chase welcome center is flowing smoothly once again.

Three legs of the roundabout are open, says Letty Schamp, transportation engineer for the City of Hilliard. She says the fourth, or south, leg— the extension of Britton Parkway—will open when parkway construction is complete, probably near the end of the year.

The roundabout’s completion marks a construction milestone, according to Hickory Chase’s director of development. Says Garrett Power, “This is the first step in the completion of the main entrance to Hickory Chase.”

For people traveling east on Davidson Road to the welcome center, the drive remains as it always has. For those approaching from the north on Britton Road or from the east on Davidson Road, the only change is the roundabout instead of a traffic signal at the intersection.

Dust still will fly as construction continues on the parkway extension, which began in May. Construction will also continue on Hickory Chase’s Cardinal Clubhouse and its first residence building, Sparrow’s Ridge, and landscaping will proceed along Hickory Chase’s north property line.

Amidst all the development, the roundabout is quite significant, says Becky Converse, Hickory Chase’s executive director: “As our community continues to develop and grow, we are excited to see some tangible results to our initial construction.

Visit www.cityofhilliard.com to watch videos about navigating roundabouts.

■ Roundabout  traffic always moves in a counterclockwise direction.

■ If there’s more than one lane, use the left lane to turn left, the right lane to turn right, and all lanes to go through unless directed otherwise by signs and pavement markings.

■ Slow down and yield to pedestrians and bicyclists.

■ Yield at the entry to circulating traffic.

■ Stay in your lane within the roundabout and use your right-turn signal to indicate your intention to exit.

■ Assume trucks need all available space—don’t pass them.

■ Clear the roundabout to allow emergency vehicles to pass.
