DEARBORN, MI – Each year, Henry Ford Village pays tribute to members of their student dining services staff by crowning “honorary” kings and queens. The students are nominated and elected by their peers.
Mary Voiles, staff development manager, announced the latest honorees as Nada Mahmud and Mouhieddine Saleh of the St. Clair Restaurant; Osama Musad and Tiara Graddy of the Great Lakes Restaurant; and Darrell Lee and Miesha Sayles of Renaissance Gardens dining services. Each recipient received a commemorative crown and banner at the annual ceremony, which takes place during a holiday celebration created for the staff.
Henry Ford Village offers after-school jobs to over 150 area students. The students fill a variety of positions in the dining services department, including serving meals in the campus’s restaurants and assisting with food preparation in the kitchens. Students who work a minimum of 500 hours for two consecutive years, typically during their junior and senior year of high school or freshman year of college, are eligible for up to a $4,000 scholarship to the educational institution of their choice.
“Our dining ‘royalty’ are recognized for being well liked among the staff,” says Voiles. “All nominees must have excellent relationship with their fellow students to be included in the selection process.” (Kathie Shaffer)
