As Ashby Ponds opens its doors for the first time, its sister community  Greenspring, in Springfield, Va., prepares for a year of celebrations marking its tenth anniversary. Throughout the past ten years, community members have pursued their dreams, met new friends, and embarked on experiences they never imagined.

A recent poll conducted for America on the Move shows that Americans walk an average of 5,310 steps in a day. However numerous scientific and medical studies show it takes 10,000 steps a day—roughly 5 ½ miles—to achieve optimal physical fitness.

This year television programming brought viewers face-to-face with a  well-publicized writers strike and the advent of increasingly sensationalistic “reality TV.” Despite the drama, the producers of Greenspring’s cable channel 6 remained committed to producing and airing quality television for its audience.
