The Greenspring community recently presented Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Va., a check for $17,500 to pay for the licensing of a software program to help students with their Standards of Learning (SOL) testing.
Presenting opportunities
Robin Gliboff, Greenspring’s associate executive director, presented the check to Robert E. Lee High School Principal Donald Thurston during a faculty meeting in front of teachers, students, and parents.
The Greenspring donation covers the cost of 30 software licenses to the PLATO Biology Series. This popular software program consists of high school science courses and utilizes animation, narration, and interaction to demonstrate biological concepts.
Community connections
Many of the students taking advantage of these new programs already enjoy a close connection with the Greenspring community.
According to Kera Wooten, staff development manager at Greenspring, 30% of all students who work at Greenspring’s on-site restaurants are students at Robert E. Lee High School.
“It’s a great partnership and we are also looking for ways to support students that bring so much to our community,” she says.
