SPRINGFIELD, VA – Erickson was awarded two urban forestry awards from Fairfax County for their tree preservation and tree planting efforts during the development of the Greenspring community in Springfield, Virginia. The awards were given out at the 2006 Land Conversation Award Ceremony that was held on Friday, January 19.
The first award was given to Erickson for their efforts in preserving trees during the development of phase two at the community. According to Michael Knapp, presenter of the award and director of urban forestry management for Fairfax County, “Erickson took greats strides, including the addition of a large retaining wall, at a great expense to the community, to help protect a large number of old-growth trees on the edge of the community.”
Accepting the awards on behalf of the company and community were Dawn Yeager, director of development for Erickson Retirement Communities, and Jarad Smith, Greenspring’s manager of public relations.
Erickson received a second award during the same ceremony in the tree planting category. Erickson was honored for their use of native Virginia trees during the development of the community.
