Residents say goodbye to winter’s hazardous driving conditions

The 2007 Farmer’s Almanac warns “winter predictions are pointing toward widespread cold from coast to coast. For the Gulf Coast up through New England, unseasonably cold, or ‘shivery,’ conditions are expected.”

Predictions of snow— and “lots of it” are also in the forecast.

This gloomy forecast should be taken seriously. Since the Farmers’ Almanac, began providing long-range weather predictions in 1818, based on a top-secret mathematical and astronomical formula, they’ve enjoyed an 80% to 85% accuracy rate.

Planning ahead
Armed with this knowledge, it’s important to start planning how you’ll protect yourself and your loved ones when facing these snowy conditions. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, “About 70% of automobile accidents resulting in death are ice-or-snow related.”

With busy schedules and long lists of to-do chores, it’s impossible to close the door and hibernate for the winter. Greenspring’s team of transportation professionals make it as safe to venture outdoors in the middle of winter as on a beautiful spring day.

Door-to-door service
Greenspring’s transportation services help members of the community enjoy running errands and visiting their favorite “hot spots” for free! Four days per week, the free shuttle visits local shopping centers and malls. And downtown D.C. is just minutes away when using the daily free shuttle to the Franconia-Springfield Metro station.

With door-to-door service, you can sit back and relax as your driver navigates the roads leading to your destination. No more slippery sidewalks or struggling with heavy bags full of groceries. Greenspring’s transportation professionals will pick you up at your building’s front door.

“I like to do lots of activities and keep doing all the things I did before moving to Greenspring,” says Ellen Gale. “Except now, I don’t have to worry about driving or parking, which is especially nice at night. With door-to-door service, it’s like having a personal chauffeur.”

Warm welcome home
Whether spending the day shopping, visiting a Smithsonian museum, or catching a show at Arena Stage, Greenspring also provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere for you to come home to. The only problem is deciding what to enjoy first.

From a healthy and tasty dinner at one of four outstanding on-site restaurants, to a long, relaxing soak in the hot tub, or brisk swim in the heated, allseason pool, you’ll find a variety of exciting ways to unwind and enjoy the winter months.
