Through hard work and dedication, the Greenspring community recently raised over $16,000 during a fourweek “Fund Drive” to help support the Greater Springfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Members of the Greenspring Resident Council developed the Fund Drive as a way to support the professional and volunteer firefighters working at Fairfax Fire and Rescue Station 22 in Springfield, Va. Station 22 is the closest fire station to Greenspring and responds to emergency calls.
“Station 22 has done so much for our community over the years that we wanted to do something to show how much we appreciate all of their hard work,” said Dr. Elaine Sorensen, Greenspring’s resident council president. “The overwhelming support we received during the Fund Drive was so heartwarming. Our original goal was to raise $10,000 and we were able to surpass that by over 50%. It just shows how much Station 22 means to our residents.”
The funds collected will be used to purchase a group of items that fall into three categories: Home Away from Home, Safety on the Road, and Health Promotion. The items purchased include:
Home away from home items:
• Commercial range/oven with six burners and a griddle
• Commercial grade dishwasher
• Tile floor in men’s locker room
• White Adirondack patio chairs
Health promotion item:
• Commercial air purifiers
Safety on the road items:
• Vehicle GPS devices for two vehicles
• Personal escape kits
• Personal safety lights
• Powerflare traffic safety lights
• Kwick access tool
• Powercall siren
In the upcoming months, Station 22 will host an Open House for the Greenspring community to show off the new items and share the results of the fund drive first-hand.
