THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE

Anyone who enjoys a variety of restaurant styles will be happy to learn there’s  a place that houses three distinctly different places all wrapped up in one community—Fox Run in Novi.

One of those places is the Hunt Club Café. Located on the second floor of the community’s Ascot Clubhouse, the café is a quaint, charming, and welcoming  place  to sit down for an elegant meal or a gourmet burger and fries.

I recently visited the Hunt Club Café one evening to see what all the fuss was about, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised.

Endless options
The café features an open, casual atmosphere with green and yellow striped retro-style awnings over five stations: “Features,” “Grill,” “Deli,” “Desserts,” and “Drinks.”

Southern-fried chicken, baked potatoes, and hearty vegetable soup were on the menu—I chose all of the above. Other options include made-to-order burgers, grilled chicken, and three varieties of French fries: regular fries, steak fries, and curly fries.

A sprawling salad bar beckoned me to load up on fresh lettuce, veggies, cheddar cheese, purple onion, and bacon so crisp it looked like it had just come off the griddle.

A few desserts featured that evening included cheesecake, gigantic homemade cookies, fresh fruit, brownies, apple pie, pecan pie, and ice cream.

Happy endings
I enjoyed every bite of my meal. The the chicken was moist and tender; the potato was cooked to perfection; and the vegetable soup was chock-full of potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes, corn, and carrots.

And the pecan pie—it was a little slice of heaven. The crust was buttery and flaky, and the smooth yet  crunchy brown-sugarpecan filling melted in my mouth.

I found the wait staff to be polite, friendly, and attentive.

During dinner, the café’s manager, Chad Mena, stopped by my table. I told him everything was delicious, and he told me he had recently begun featuring “interactive” meals, featuring stations where people can walk up and see live cooking demonstrations on Friday nights at the café, and that they were already a big hit.

“We will be doing a pasta bar and a taco bar,” Mena says. Diners will be able to choose their toppings as chefs make their meals in front of their eyes. “It  gives everyone a little variety and a little fun.”

A place for family, friends
A group of café regulars dined at a nearby table. Peg Quigley, who moved to Fox Run from Troy with her husband Arlon, says she loves the café and goes there often.

“You can control your portions more here, and the salad bar is  wonderful,” Quigley says. “It’s also a great place to bring grandchildren … they can have a hamburger and fries if they want.”

The night I was there, I definitely observed a lot of family members and guests dining with each other. The café is definitely a place for good food and good company.

All in all, I’d highly recommend the Hunt Club Café to anyone who enjoys a lot of variety, delicious food, and a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. I’m told the café also offers hearty breakfast and lunch menus, which can only mean one thing: I’m definitely coming back.
