Someone with preconceived notions about what a retirement community is like may soon be “won over” at Fox Run in Novi.
Just ask Tom Cain, who moved from nearby. “I think the social atmosphere— the friendship—helps people like me to remain younger, to be interested, to care.
“To me, one of the substantial blessings of Fox Run is the people. They’re very interesting. You can make very good friends, and it is easy. And, for those who are considering moving to a retirement community, certainly explore other possibilities; but I don’t think you’d find anything that matches Fox Run in the scope of things to do.”
Companionship, convenience, community
Besides offering more than 100 clubs, the “neighborhoodvibe” of Fox Run is reinforced with other hometown touches including a convenience store, a bank, a day spa, two salons, a performing arts center, an exhibition-style restaurant, a bistro-style pub, and a fitness and aquatics center.
When Cain discovered Comerica Bank was coming to Fox Run, he was thrilled. “The bank is very close to me. I worked there for 35 years, and it’s a branch of that bank. When I saw that it was coming here, I knew this was my destiny; it’s very convenient. They even have safe deposit boxes,” Cain says.
He also appreciates the Ascot Market, nestled right inside the community. “You can get various items that you need, and the hours are good. All of those things together make it very comfortable being here,” Cain says.
Many others share Cain’s views.
“I like the companionship of the people and the convenience of having everything close,” says Ed Handley, who moved to Fox Run with his wife Shirley from Overland Park, Kans. “It’s called Fox Run Village, and that’s because you have your store, you have your bank, you have your postal center. I call the front desk the Chamber of Commerce, and it is a little village. That’s why I feel very cozy here,” Handley says. “Getting involved is very easy at Fox Run,” Cain adds.
