“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.  Anyone who keeps learning stays young.  The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.”

--Henry Ford

If those words from Ford are accepted as true, than there are many at Fox Run who are staying young by attending the Center for Continuous Learning.

The Center is an academic enrichment program created by a resident-driven advisory committee that determines the subject matter of each offering and invites well-known, respected speakers to share their views on a variety of timely topics.

The program’s goal is to give people at Fox Run an opportunity to learn more about topics of interest and to offer the surrounding community a chance to share the experience as well.  Fox Run is committed to being an asset to nearby neighborhoods, and opening this Center to the public supports this commitment.

“Statistics show that the old adage ‘you are never too old to learn something new’ is so true,” says Marie DiCostanza, director of resident life at Fox Run.  “In fact, we find that our residents thrive in a learning environment.  When they participate in a program like the Center for Continuous Learning, they revel in sharing their opinions and knowledge and in meeting new people who may share similar interests.”

“I really believe we should never stop learning,” adds May Morgan, who lives at Fox Run.  “We need to keep our minds alert.  It is important that we know what’s going on in the world as well.”

“Learning is not attained by chance. It must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.”

--Abigail Adams

The first offering of the Center, in February, was by Dr. Fred Pearson in February on the Iraqi elections.  Dr. Pearson is Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at Wayne State University and also directs the Detroit Council for World Affairs.

His lecture was particularly timely since the elections had just recently been held and, for many, had changed perceptions on what was possible in promoting democracy in the Middle East. Dr. Pearson’s knowledge as a recognized authority in the fields of international military intervention and ethnic conflict analysis added a depth of understanding to those who attended.
