THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE
Meet Tony Logan II, Fox Run’s wellness coordinator. Tony has been working at Fox Run since October of 2005.
“I come from a hospital background,” says Tony. He received his B.S. from Michigan State University, with concentrations in cardiac rehabilitation and health promotion. Previously, he worked as an exercise physiologist at the Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing.
“I dealt with the recovery and physical rehabilitation phase of cardiac care patients,” says Tony.
Tony says one of the driving forces behind his interest in cardiac rehabilitation is his family’s history of cardiac problems. “The men in my family have had a lot of cardiac issues. So far, no man in my immediate family has lived past the age of 64 due to things like heart attacks, diabetes, and high blood pressure.”
And his father was headed for the same problems –Tony’s dad works as a Detroit police officer. “He used to eat a lot of fried foods like donuts.” Once Tony completed his education, he began inspiring his father to get healthy. “My dad went from 280 to 230 pounds,” says Tony. “Now I work out with my dad four times a week. He’s doing remarkably well.”
Tony shares that same passion for health with the community members at Fox Run. “They’re like family to me,” says Tony.
Tony welcomes everyone
“I enjoy working here,” says Tony. “It’s a challenge.” Tony welcomes new community members by sending them personal letters inviting them to check out the center, and perhaps join an exercise class.
“I reach out to them,” he says.
Healthy bodies, healthy minds
“Exercise is important for both flexibility and mental health,” says Tony. He is inspired by the level of activity he sees at Fox Run.
“It’s about staying mobile,” he ads. “It’s vitally important to stay active.
“You can do something as small as walking even ten minutes a day.”
