Eagle’s Trace volunteers raise funds and help remember the babies
Eagle’s Trace is brimming with good neighbors like these, who find that with no worries about home maintenance and other daily chores, they have more time to volunteer, and make a difference in the lives of others. In a variety of ways, inside the community and further afield, dozens of men and women give of their time to share their gifts with others.
In loving remembrance
A talented group of women at Eagle’s Trace have put their talented hands to work for the Bereavement Group at Katy Memorial Hermann Hospital, knitting shrouds, crocheting blankets, and creating memory boxes that bring comfort to the loved ones of babies who are stillborn or have died at birth. The dedicated group (at left) gathered recently for a luncheon in their honor planned by fellow volunteer Elizabeth Gauldin (not shown). The effort is part of an ongoing partnership with the hospital.
A shocking success
In late October, Judy Meyer and her crew mounted a nine-day auction of items that had been donated to the Treasure Chest, an on-site resale shop managed by the resident volunteers who collect donations of household items and furniture from residents. The first-ever auction included items from the everyday to the exquisite, including a Lalique Crystal wine glass appraised at $600. Some residents also donated services. The auction raised more than $6,000 to benefit the Eagle’s Trace Benevolent Care Fund and Senior Scholars.
