CATONSVILLE, MD – It was after 9 p.m. and Charlestown Communications Specialist Nicole Saunders had already closed down the front desk and was ready to head for home after a busy shift. At that moment, the automatic lobby doors opened and in walked a couple exhausted and hungry after a five-hour plane ride from California. They were visitors to the campus here for an interview the next day. Upon receiving the guest room key from Nicole, they asked if there was anywhere nearby to get something to eat. Naturally, all of the campus restaurants were closed, but she knew a local restaurant that might still be open and recommended it.

Shuttle driver Norman Jeffries takes Renaissance Gardens Terrace residents fishing Tuesday, October 03, 2006
CATONSVILLE, MD – On a beautiful September morning, eight residents of Renaissance Gardens Terrace at Charlestown met with shuttle driver Norman Jefferies to try their luck fishing in the Charlestown pond. The pond occupies three acres of land on the Charlestown campus; it was stocked with several species of fish in 1999, including bluegill, channel catfish, crappies, yellow perch, and large-mouth bass.

Home health team recognized again for low acute-care hospitalization rates Tuesday, October 03, 2006
CATONSVILLE, MD – Charlestown’s home health team has been awarded two Medicare Excellence Awards by the Delmarva Foundation, Medicare’s quality improvement organization for Maryland and the District of Columbia. Charlestown received the Delmarva Foundation Home Health Quality for the second year in a row. The purpose of the home health quality excellence award is to recognize local home health agencies that have among the lowest acute care hospitalization rates nationwide. Winning agencies must rate within the top fifth percentile of all agencies nationwide for the period of March 2005 to February 2006. Charlestown was the only regional recipient of the award this year.

The Charlestown Sluggers came out swinging against rival Erickson community, Greenspring in a competitive, but friendly softball game held on Charlestown’s ball field. Nearly 350 people turned out to watch the event and cheer on the players.
