Baltimore, Md.—A $100,000 grant from Erickson Retirement Communities to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology has resulted in the creation of the Erickson Johns Hopkins Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine and Leadership.
The two new fellowship positions will include a one-year fellowship in clinical geriatric medicine and a two-year fellowship in clinical geriatric medicine and leadership. They will begin in July 2007 and 2008.
“As a nation, we simply do not have enough physicians specially trained in geriatrics to meet the ever growing demand for services,” said Dr. Matt Narrett, chief medical officer for Erickson HealthSM. “We must do better, and through this program we will fund and help train future leaders and primary care physicians.”
The fellowship offers a rigorous training program for the next generation of leaders in care for the nation’s aging population. Clinical training includes both longitudinal and elective rotations in a state-ofthe- art continuing care retirement community, with training tailored to the goals of the postdoctoral fellow.
