CATONSVILLE, MD – On Wednesday, January 3, many spectators were on hand at Charlestown to welcome the campus’ “largest” new residents – two 20-feet-high cooling tower modules that measure 18-feet wide by 24-feet long. Residents and staff watched in awe as a crane lifted the 46,000-pound modules over the Charlestown Square building. According to Senior Facilities Manager Joe Lenox, the new cooling tower was being installed to provide increased air conditioning capacity to the campus during the summer months. “With the new tower, we will no longer have to shut down public-area heat pumps in order to maintain loop temperature during periods of extreme heat in the summer,” Lenox said. For a short period of time during the installation, residents and staff were asked to leave Charlestown Square to insure their safety. (Jane Powell)
