When die-hard Baltimore Ravens fans Albert and Mary Loris decided to move to Charlestown, their love of sports came into play when selecting their new apartment.

“I have tons of sports memorabilia so we knew we needed a den to display and store it all,” says Albert.

The active couple moved from their condominium in Glen Burnie into their fourth floor, one-bedroom with den apartment at Charlestown this past May.

“Our apartment faces the swimming pool and it’s in a really low traffic area,” says Albert.

“I really like the idea that our apartment is so easy to keep up,” says Mary. It’s bright with lots of natural light and it’s convenient to everything on campus.”

Convenience Is Key
It’s that easy lifestyle that they appreciate most.

“You have the Medical Center, pool, walking trails, lake—every activity you can think of is here and you don’t have to drive to get to things. If you do need to go off campus, Charlestown is ideally located close to the beltway, I-95, and even the light rail, which takes you right into the city. Plus we’re not far from our family,” says Mary, a mother of four daughters and grandmother of eight.

“There are so many things to do here,” says Albert. “There’s billiards, ping pong, shuffleboard— you name it—there’s really something for everyone. And if there isn’t a club for your interest then you can start one,” he says.

Value is another reason the Lorises chose to make Charlestown their new home. “We looked at other places like Ginger Cove in Annapolis. We read their brochures and took tours,” says Mary, “but Charlestown was the most reasonable and they offered so much for you money, it was clearly the best choice.

We think the monthly service package is very reasonable. It’s comparable to what we spent to live in our condo and we get so much for our money here,” says Mary.

Albert and Mary offer this advice to anyone who might be on the fence about moving to Charlestown, “Come take a tour and see the community for yourself. But do it while you’re still young enough to enjoy and take advantage of all of the amenities that are here,” says Mary.

“We attended many functions on campus before moving—concerts, luncheons, tours, etc. Everyone was very honest and upfront with what things cost and what you get for your money,” she says.

After only six months the Lorises are happy to call Charlestown home. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Alaska.

“We’ve met so many nice and interesting people since we moved. We instantly felt welcomed into the community.”
