About a year and a half ago, Doris Sinofsky, who lives at Cedar Crest, wanted to honor the World War II and Korean War veterans who live at the retirement community in Pompton Plains. At the same time, Jay Buettner, who runs the on-campus TV studio and production class, was  looking for a documentary project for his students.

Later this month, the Woodland Commons Clubhouse at Cedar Crest will be abuzz with information and activities to help you stay fit and healthy year after year. The community will host a health fair featuring information booths, presentations, health screenings, and demonstrations by experts in health and wellness.

Neighborhood vibe makes community the perfect home

Rose Quine has lived in her share of small towns. Mention the mayor of one of the towns she lived in, and she can tell you stories about the mayor, the mayor’s brother, and the mayor’s nephew. If given time, she’d probably tell you about the mayor’s dog too.

“Challenge yourself! This is your workout!”

Instructor Julie Cilley stands on the edge of Cedar Crest’s indoor swimming pool, encouraging her class in the water below to hold themselves up with the support of colorful, buoyant foam bands. The students comply, lifting their feet off the pool’s floor like a gymnast on the parallel bars. They hold for a second and release. All the while, soothing New Age music plays in the background.
