The motivated minority

This time of year, while most people are shopping for toys and clothes, a motivated minority are shopping for a new home. These dedicated buyers are what make winter a true seller’s market, even though most people may not think of it that way.

With a narrower market, dedicated buyers, and less competition, if you’re thinking about selling your home, you may want to start pursuing it now instead of waiting until spring. Here’s how:

Home for the holidays
In the wintertime, accentuate cozy areas such as the fireplace, and make other parts of the home appear as though they are always ready for use. For example, keep the dining room table set, though not cluttered.

Buyers may also be looking to move into their home just in time for the holidays so they can entertain friends and family. Avoid hanging many holiday decorations. You want the buyer to visualize the house as their home, adorned with their decorations.

Light scented candles, or bake cookies to give the house a warm, comforting aroma.

Sparkles of color
Since it gets dark sooner, keep the lights on or put them on a timer, both inside and out.

Outside, the trees will be bare, so add color to your curb appeal by placing some large, potted poinsettias on the ground in your flower beds.

Place a live holiday wreath on your front door to welcome the visitors and add an extra splash of color.

With these tips and less competition, you can take advantage of winter as a true seller’s season.
