Later this month, the Woodland Commons Clubhouse at Cedar Crest will be abuzz with information and activities to help you stay fit and healthy year after year. The community will host a health fair featuring information booths, presentations, health screenings, and demonstrations by experts in health and wellness.
The fair will combine information on services available to people who move to the community and also some that are available in the greater Pompton Plains area.
The fair will highlight several new health initiatives available at Cedar Crest and in the surrounding community, including the New Vitality and Men’s Health programs offered by Chilton Memorial Hospital.
New community wellness programs
The New Vitality program has health- and wellness-focused lectures, workshops, classes, support groups, trips, and social events geared toward older adults. Joan Beloff, the hospital’s director of community outreach and New Vitality, will explain the program and its benefits at the fair.
Cedar Crest’s wellness team will also conduct a “FallProof” class for visitors. Participants will learn tips and exercises to improve their balance and reduce their risk of falling.
Other services available at the fair will include demonstrations by the Institute of Therapeutic Massage and exhibits by the Cedar Crest fitness center, home health and visiting nurses program, and resident life department.
Most active population
Held just a month after National Senior Health and Fitness Day, the Cedar Crest health fair will help people practice healthy lifestyles year round. “Our goals are to make exercise fun, to increase awareness of the benefits of a regular exercise program for older adults, and to encourage all older adults to take advantage of the many health and fitness programs offered in their communities,” says Tina Godin, National Senior Health and Fitness Day program manager.
