Couples have a way to stay together

Although Mary Jane Cormier is a retired nurse, she admits that caregiving for her husband Richard had become too difficult. “I couldn’t lift him anymore and outside help just isn’t that dependable,” says Mary Jane.
Fortunately, this couple of 52 years didn’t face separation and had a solution within their community; Renaissance Gardens, the on-site, extended care neighborhood.
Making recovery easy
“It can be raining cats and dogs and I just walk through the climate-controlled walkway from my apartment home to the Renaissance Gardens neighborhood, twice a day, every day. I couldn’t do that if he was someplace outside the community. It is easy for us to spend time and have dinner together when we want,” says Mary Jane.
Mary Jane approves of the on-site Erickson HealthSM doctors with experience in geriatric care and licensed nurses on duty 24/7. “The nurses get him out of bed and make sure he’s bathed and dressed every morning,” she says.
A private room lets Dick nap without interruption whenever he desires. Then Mary Jane walks home to one of the many activities she enjoys on the main campus. And the couple enjoys things together, like concerts and trips to nearby attractions.
“I’m thankful every day we have Renaissance Gardens,” says Mary Jane.
