Days after a raucous rolling rally made its way through crowded Boston streets, Brooksby Village celebrated the Red Sox’s World Series victory with its own parade.

Clad in Red Sox paraphernalia and riding in decorated antique cars, those who work and live at Brooksby cheered their loudest and tossed candy to people who had lined the route through campus to watch.

Making an entrance
People watched and waved from their apartment windows and the indoor bridges between buildings.

Brooksby Director of Marketing John DeCecca— dressed as slugger Manny Ramirez in a long, dark-haired wig—swept the air with a broom from the back of a pickup truck. He was alluding to the Red Sox’s sweep of the Series; they won all four games to take their second World Series title since 2004.

Red Sox nation
The Brooksby community boasts plenty of Red Sox fans.

“We all watched into the wee hours of the morning,” says Patricia King of the late-night games. King lives at Brooksby and was riding in one of the parade’s cars. She puts her sports knowledge to use as a moderator on Brooksby’s monthly sports talk show “Old Sports.”

Bill Burke, who lives at Brooksby and hosts “Old Sports,” is a converted New York Yankees fan. For 25 years the New York native supported the Red Sox’s rivals until his wife caused him to make the switch.

“I can’t stand the Yankees now,” Burke says. His next show will cover the World Series outcome, but with the New England Patriots’ season also in full swing, there should be plenty on the agenda to discuss.

Another reason to celebrate
Even for those who weren’t Red Sox fans, Brooksby offered more to celebrate than just the team’s win. Brooksby Executive Director Jim Wingardner had made a bet with Craig Erickson, his counterpart at Wind Crest—a fellow Erickson community located in Denver, Colo. If the Rockies won, Wingardner would have had to provide lobster dinners for those who live at Wind Crest. But since the Red Sox won, Craig Erickson will be providing steak dinners for those who live at Brooksby.

“Craig was a good sport— he knew his team didn’t have a chance but he still took a bet,” Wingardner says.

The bet was kept quiet until the Red Sox won, but now, Wingardner adds, “we’re broadcasting it.”
