Volunteering is a Way of Life for Loretta Tenaglia
By Robert Doherty
Loretta Tenaglia was recently awarded the 2005 Annual Community Service Award in recognition of her selfless efforts. It’s the annual community service award given by the Making A Difference in Peabody Foundation Inc. “I moved here the first day Brooksby was open and I’ve been involved in many different things,” says Loretta. From the moment she arrived at Brooksby, Loretta started looking for places to help.
But that was only the beginning. In her five years at Brooksby, Loretta has continually been giving of herself including helping to raise money for the stain glass window that is now in the Brooksby chapel, she is a four year member of the Resident Advisory Council and appointed liaison to Renaissance Gardens, and is the current chairman of Brooksby’s political outreach group that gets local, city and federal candidates to come in and speak to residents so that they can make an informed voting decision.
Volunteering is Nothing New
Loretta has a long history of volunteering and feels her award is in recognition for all the work she’s done over the years—including using her IRS background to help people with their taxes, volunteering in various capacities at the Danvers Senior Center and being the head of the American Heart Fund Drive in Danvers.
Since moving to Brooksby, Loretta has focused all of her volunteer work on wherever there is a need. Loretta has found that no longer having to maintain a house, and cook all her meals affords her more time to do what she wants, which is volunteering “Brooksby is a large community, so instead of having to go outside of Brooksby to volunteer, I find that there are so many things that I can do here,” she adds “I enjoy doing it. It’s a reward for me.”
