PEABODY, MA – Mayor Michael J. Bonfanti visited Brooksby Village, a retirement community in Peabody, earlier this week for a special presentation.
Mayor Bonfanti, who typically visits Brooksby Village several times a year, met with more than 60 people who live in the community. During the presentation the mayor discussed current city business and issues.
“Peabody has evolved into a diverse, vibrant community, a wonderful place to live and raise a family,” said Mayor Bonfanti. “It is a city that has preserved the best of its past, yet managed to transcend that past with a clear vision for the future.”
Following the discussion, Florence Perkins – who lives at Brooksby Village – presented the mayor with a handmade quilt, designed with the city of Peabody’s seal. An avid quilter, Perkins previously completed a similar quilt for the town of Manchester, when a neighbor suggested she attempt the Peabody seal.
“It took a year of convincing, but I wanted to take on a new challenge,” said Perkins.
Perkins, who has quilted for several years, worked on the Peabody piece for several months – even occasionally working on it well past midnight. Once finished, she opted to give the completed quilt to the city of Peabody for display. (Ashley Daniels)
