The drug business is booming at Brooksby Village. And that’s good news for those who live and work there.

The on-site Neighbor- Care professional pharmacy opened in November and has been busy ever since, according to pharmacist Sue Lang.

“We’re a full-service pharmacy and our business here is going well,” Lang says. “Our sales volume is steadily increasing.”

Convenient and well-stocked
The pharmacy’s opening added another convenient service to Brooksby’s impressive list of amenities and is providing those who live and work there with a convenient means of on-site access to medical supplies.

“We accept all Medicare D insurance plans and we also accept regular  insurance, which allows employees as well as residents to also have their prescriptions filled here,” Lang says. “We’re open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.”

Pharmacy employees also make daily deliveries of filled prescriptions to those who live and work at the community. The costs of prescriptions can be either be paid by standard means (cash, check, or credit card), or, as an added convenience for community members, by charging their existing monthly accounts.

Lang stresses the pharmacy can fill prescriptions from Brooksby’s medical center as well as prescriptions from outside doctors’ offices.

“People who want their prescriptions filled can come here even if they don’t use the services of the medical center,” Lang says.

In addition to prescription drugs, Lang says the pharmacy also carries a full range of over-the-counter items, including first-aid supplies, aspirin and pain relievers, and other home health care items.

“We can even special-order items by request and have them here the next day,” Lang says.

An experienced staff
In addition to Lang, the pharmacy’s staff includes part-time pharmacist Dave Sullivan and technicians Paula Bettencourt, Maureen Weeks, Sandy Roulier,  and Paula Clancy.

A graduate of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston, Lang has worked as a pharmacist for the past 26 years and was employed by North Shore Pharmacy Services of Wakefield prior to coming to Brooksby.

“It’s a really nice place to work and we enjoy being here,” Lang says. "Everyone has been wonderful in welcoming us.”

An independent contractor, NeighborCare Professional Pharmacies has headquarters in Baltimore, Md., and currently operates pharmacies at three Erickson campuses in Maryland— Charlestown, Oak Crest, and Riderwood. Neighbor-Care also recently opened a fourth pharmacy at Linden Ponds in Hingham.
