Residents take on local high school debate team

Posted on Tuesday, April 10, 2007

PEABODY, MA – Students from The Waring School debate team were at Brooksby Village last week to test their skills against men and women who live at Brooksby Village. The topic they discussed was whether participating in multinational diplomatic efforts is beneficial to U.S. interests.

Several Waring School students and Brooksby residents also watched the debate, which was held on Thursday in the chapel. The debate began at 1:30 p.m. and lasted for 40 minutes, with time for voting and questions from the audience. Approximately 45 people came out to watch.

In the end, it was decided that the students won the debate. The Waring School is a private school located in Beverly, Mass.

This is the fourth year in a row that residents at Brooksby have held formal debates against high school teams. In years past, people who live at Brooksby debated against students from Manchester Essex Regional High School. (Dani G. Baldassare)
