The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reports that about 65.4 million people volunteer through or for different organizations at least once a year. At Brooksby Village, people volunteer every day.
Over 600 volunteers who live at Brooksby Village spent over 14,000 hours in 2006 helping others. "Many people who live at Brooksby helped out over 100 different organizations within Brooksby and the North Shore last year," said Tom Cook, volunteer program coordinator at Brooksby.
"Our volunteers worked with The Progeria Research Foundation, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, Habitat for Humanity, North Shore Community Action Programs, Inc., and Special Olympics Massachusetts, just to name a few."
Many who live at Brooksby Village also volunteered to help a number of groups and events on campus as well. "The people who live here are so giving with their time and money," says Tom. "I’m inspired by the generosity."
