More than 50 people who live and work at Brooksby Village, and one large turkey, recently participated in the fifth annual Turkey Trot at the North Shore campus.
A large turkey led the walkers around the campus and then people who live and work at Brooksby presented Haven From Hunger with boxes of canned goods and 100 turkeys.
Coming together
"Everyone really enjoys helping Haven From Hunger year after year," says Nancy Duffy, senior community services manager at Brooksby. "We were able to raise $1,000 this year and collect cases full of canned goods."
Giving back
One of those people to help was Chi Chi McKenna, who has lived at Brooksby for six years. Chi Chi’s reason for helping Haven From Hunger was a personal one. "I was a client of theirs a long, long time ago. I needed their services. I have to return, in some way, the kindness and generosity that was given to me," says Chi Chi. "In a way, I still need Haven From Hunger. It makes me feel good to be able to donate or give back to others in need. I stop by now and then to drop off food or some clothing," says Chi Chi. "I really do it for me."
