Never has there been a time when our country was more politically polarized. The war in Iraq, immigration, and health care are just a few of the issues that people have strong feelings about, none more so than the Concerned Citizens Group at Linden Ponds.
“One year ago Marguerite Pfeiffer and I started this group in my apartment,” says Roz Brooks, member and co-founder of Concerned Citizens. “Now we have a great organization and have arranged for a number of important and interesting guest speakers. We are all very proud of what we have accomplished.”
Roz has always been fascinated with politics. After moving to Brooksby, Roz decided to pursue her passion more intently. So, with the help of friends, she started the Concerned Citizens Group.
Dinner and Politics
Roz has always enjoyed politics and believes there is a political gene that runs in her family. “Growing up, politics was always the subject of conversation at dinner,” says Roz.
“My brother was very involved. He was a government professor and involved in city and state politics. was also involved in getting students to intern for elected officials in Washington.”
Open to everyone who lives at Brooksby, the group meets to discuss and seek ways of implementing programs and activities in support of their social and political values.
The group, which is an informal organization of Democrats and Independents at Brooksby, has recently celebrated its one-year anniversary.
“Marguerite and I were talking with other people about our frustrations about the current administration. We kept ending each conversation with what could we do? We decided we all could do a little. We decided to form a group and discuss what we could do. started as two or three people, then six or eight. I think we have over 55 people on the roster now,” says Roz.
