PEABODY, MA – The Energy Committee at Brooksby Village was looking for ways to be energy conscious at Brooksby Village. After doing some research, the group determined if people who live at Brooksby Village began using energy-efficient light bulbs the campus would save 75 percent in energy costs when compared to incandescent bulbs.
On Wednesday, October 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the McIntosh Catering Room at Brooksby Village, over 3,000 energy efficient light bulbs will be on sale:
o 13 watts (= 60 watts) $1
o 19 watts (=75 watts) $3
o 23 watts (=100 watts) $2
o 40 watts (= 150 watts) $4
o 3-way bulbs are $4
“We all have lights and lamps in our apartments so what better way to start lowering energy costs than in our own home,” said Emerson Tucker, member of the Resident Advisory Council at Brooksby Village and chairman of the Energy Committee. “We shopped around and finally were able to get a great deal on Sylvania Energy Star bulbs. I hope people come to the event to buy some and try them out at home.”
There will be cake and prizes at the sale.
“The Treasure Chest at Brooksby Village gave the Energy Committee the money to purchase the bulbs so we can’t thank them enough,” said Tucker. “We spent $9,600 to buy the energy-efficient light bulbs. If we sell all of them, we will yield a savings of $25,000 on energy bills. You can’t beat that!”
