Recently, over 30 dogs owned by people who live and work at Brooksby Village participated in the third annual Dog Derby.
The event was conceived three years ago by dog lovers who live and work at Brooksby. The Dog Derby is now one of the most popular events on campus with over 250 people in attendance. It consists of several competitions and begins with an extravagant “Strut Your Mutt” parade around Brooksby’s beautifully landscaped campus.
Best of Breed
Dogs of all sizes and breeds were judged in different categories, including: Best Catcher, Waggiest Tail, Best Costume, and Dog That Most Resembles Its Owner.
Judges for the derby included Shami Quzi and Pam Fialho who both work at Brooksby, Jay Tenney and Bob Mullenbrock who live at Brooksby, and Marianna Massa who works at the North Eeast Animal Sshelter.
The Dog Derby is open to those who live at Brooksby, staff members and family, and is the perfect excuse to go out on a warm sunny day and have fun. “Eeveryone had such a great time. We had a lot of laughs,” says Nancy Duffy, Brooksby’s senior community services manager.
A Great Cause
In addition to all the fun, that same day a bake sale was held and raffle tickets were sold to benefit the Renaissance Gardens Pet Fund. This fund helps to pay for the purchase and care of pets in Renaissance Gardens. “The people who live and work here are always thinking of new ways to help others and have a great time doing it,” says Nnancy. “I love working here.”
