Since moving to Brooksby, Joan Pappalardo has immersed herself in Brooksby’s dynamic culture. She’s involved with so many different clubs, classes, and activities that it’s hard to believe she has time for them all.
She’s the emcee of karaoke night, volunteers with several charities, and is a member of the Resident Advisory Council. She also hosts the Village View, which is one of several TV shows that is shot on location at Brooksby’s on-site TV studio. But Joan hasn’t always lived this fun, care-free lifestyle.
An Easy Decision
She moved to Brooksby from Medford, Mass., where she had lived for 48 years. For Joan, the decision to move to Brooksby was easy—she was sick and tired of being lonely. “I was fine in the daytime. At night I was lonely, especially in the winter when it got dark at 4:30. I would eat alone everynight. Maybe would rent a movie. That’s how I spent my evenings,” says Joan.
Joining the Priority List
New England winters can not only be inhospitable, but they can be truly dangerous. After one winter evening, Joan knew it was time to make a move.
“I was babysitting my twin grandsons. I fell on some black ice very late at night. I was petrified. It was bitter cold. The next day I came in and joined the Priority List.”
The Right Design
The first thing Joan needed to do was to find the right floor plan design at Brooksby that would fit her personality. Joan picked the Lancaster. This large, two-bedroom, two-bath design features an expansive living area, a beautiful sunroom with a large bay window, and a separate over-sized living area.
“I wanted space. I have grandchildren who visit. When have family in town it’s very comfortable,” says Joan. “I have a huge den, a patio, and sun room. I also put in a fireplace. am so excited about it. It’s got brick and a hearth. People come in and they are in awe of it. It's the center of my living room.”
