Fitness Is a Way of Life for Betty Darcy

Everybody moves into Brooksby Village for different reasons. Some are attracted by the amazing amenities the community offers. Others may have a need to feel secure or to live closer to family. Some may want to downsize from their current house.
The reason Betty Darcy moved out of her Wakefield home of 40 years was the exceptional aquatic and fitness programs that are offered at Brooksby. “Once found out that they had an all-season swimming pool and Fitness Center I was hooked. I wouldn’t have to drive anymore to exercise. Now can exercise right from my home,” says Betty.
As a result of her commitment and dedication to fitness, the Brooksby Village Fitness Center recently announced that Betty Darcy was the “Member of the Month.”
Lifelong Commitment
“I began to take aerobic step classes over 32 years ago when aerobics was rapidly becoming a national trend,” adds Betty. By the end of the 1970’s, aerobics had become synonymous as a particular form of cardiovascular exercise that combined traditional calisthenics with popular dance styles in a class-based format geared primarily to women. “My dedication to fitness also had an effect on my family. My husband Charlie (married for 57 years) began playing tennis and golf and two of my daughters began taking classes and eventually started teaching aerobics.”
Still Finds the Time
Betty has always found the time to exercise, even after raising 10 children and keeping up with 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Along with keeping up with her family, she still finds the time to volunteer at Renaissance Gardens and is very active in the Fitness Center’s group exercise classes.
