Three People Share a Little About Themselves and Their New Homes

Hawthorne Model Recently Opened

The homes at Brooksby offer a rare combination of quality and comfort, and as you will see from our recently opened model apartment home, the Hawthorne is no exception. This large two bedroom, two bath apartment home comes beautifully appointed with modern, maintenance-free features including an expanded living area for a formal dining set.

Meet George Heald--Moved from Peabody, MA

What made you decide to pick a Hawthorne?

I like HO trains, which is a small train, but big enough to see the details of it. That’s my hobby, and I wanted a second bedroom so I could have a room for my train. And that’s where I’m currently making a train set.

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

I read a lot, so I have a lot of books. I write sometimes. I watch quite a few movies too—especially westerns and action movies. I’ve got a nice entertainment center and will be buying a HDTV soon. In fact, I was just researching it on the Internet.

What do you want people to know about Brooksby?

People ask me, Do you like Brooksby? I say no, I don’t like it, I love it. I really love it here. It’s such a relaxing place to be for me.

What is that you like most about the Hawthorne?

I like the big walk-in closet. The closet in the Hawthorne is a deep closet. I use the closet in the second bedroom too. I really needed that big, nice walk-in closet.”

When we looked at the floor plan, we immediately knew we wanted it because it had a double-exposure and large kitchen with a picture window.  We like to cook, so we use the kitchen quite often. We have two couples that we enjoy spending time with and we often have dessert together here and we open a bottle of champagne and bring in a few chairs into the kitchen and just enjoy ourselves.

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

Joyce:  I’m in the Bell Singers. That takes up one day all morning. I take Tai Chi which is two mornings, Wednesdays and Fridays. I’m also in the Sacred Dance Group. We performed at the dedication of the chapel stain-glass window.

Dick:  I’m in the Brooksby Gentlemen. I was also in the chorus before I was elected to the Resident Advisory Committee. And I have my own program in the TV studio called Then and Now. I interview residents with distinguished careers and that’s really enjoyable. I just interviewed a gentleman who was the commander of the air craft carrier Shangri-La.

What do you want people to know about Brooksby?

The clubs and classes here are amazing. We didn’t live around here and making new friends was very easy—really good friends. There’s a real, genuine sense of community here. If you want to be alone you can do that, but there is so much to do, I can’t imagine a person coming here and not getting involved.

Some people have turned their second bedroom into an office or den—have you?

It’s our TV room. It has one reclining chair and a sofa, and we relax in there to watch TV. We’re on the southwest corner and we get beautiful morning sun, and we have sunsets through the west windows.

What is that you like most about the Jackson?

It would have to be the kitchen. The view and the usability of the kitchen. Plus that frees up the living area. We use it as a sitting room. We have a small desk in there and a piano that overlooks the pond and the far side of the campus and the hills.
