Talking Sports and Exchanging Stories

THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE
The Brooksby Fraternity started from humble beginnings a few years ago with ten members. Now with more than 180 members, the fraternity is filled with fascinating, talented members just waiting to tell their stories.
“The Brooksby Fraternity was founded by Dick Byrne. About ten of us would meet in the Harvest Grill lounge. We’d talk sports and exchange stories—and it started to grow. By the time I took over, it grew to about 135 people and continues to grow,” says Jack Borteck, current president.
The basic premise of the Brooksby Fraternity is for the members to get together over lunch and get to know each other. The group meets every Saturday. “We usually have a speaker, someone among the group who will tell us about their experiences. It’s a fascinating group with a tremendous amount of talent,” adds Borteck.
“We have very interesting people. One of our members, Keith Taylor, was a captain of an aircraft carrier at Shangri- La. We have another person who was commander of a submarine, and we have a reporter who interviewed Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. He even played golf with Eisenhower.”
When Jack isn’t running the Brooksby Fraternity, he can be found helping out in the TV studio, the classical concert committee, and the Jewish council.
“There are so many activities that I enjoy and I’ve made a lot of friends. It’s a wonderful place to live.”says Jack.
