Just when you think they’ve done it all, Brooksby residents will do something even more extraordinary—like put on a full-production theatrical play. In late November, four performances of Morland Cary’s Love Rides the Rails hit the stage—with a cast of 14 people, all Brooksby residents.
“It was originally supposed to be a melodrama, but as the weeks went on with all the people involved, it was a real fun group, and it became a comedy,” says Bernie Caron who was cast as Truman Pendennis, one of the lead characters. “I got involved when I went to a Brooksby dance. I like to sing and the band let me do my signature song, “Tiny Bubbles.” After the song was over, Eugenia Lomas, the producer of the play, asked me to audition. I did and I was given one of the lead roles in the play.”
In the end the good guys win and the villain, Simon Darkway, fails in his attempt to take over the Amtrak R.R. “We peaked on the last night and had our best performance. We had a great time,” adds Caron.
