THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE
Over 100 women who live at Brooksby Village attended a Red Hat Society chapter event. The ‘Brooksby Belles,’ a group of over 100 women at Brooksby, celebrated their second birthday.
“Two years ago we started with over 50 women and now we have over 100 in our chapter here at Brooksby,” said Lillian Shapiro, Brooksby resident and Queen Mother of the Brooksby chapter. “We assumed some women would be interested, but we had no idea we would have over 100 women sign up to be in the group. We were all very excited about the birthday party.”
The Brooksby chapter meets every other month to discuss various topics. On the months they don’t meet, they hold events—everything from going to a movie or a museum to getting together in someone’s home to watch Seinfeld episodes. Within the chapter, there are many different committees that all work together to plan events both at Brooksby and off campus.
The Red Hat Society has an estimated 300,000 members and over 17,000 chapters across the United States and in 20 foreign countries. Chapters follow no rules, believing that having fun and enjoying each other's company is what really matters. The Red Hat Society’s motto is “Red Hatters Matter,” and you will surely agree if you are able to spend just a few minutes with a Red Hatter.
