Most people who are not musicians wonder what it would be like to play a musical instrument. Brooksby residents no longer have to wonder because they now have the opportunity to learn how to play the piano.
A new program from Yamaha is bringing the joy of musical discovery to people in their own communities in a remarkable new way that includes all the fun, but none of the tedium of traditional lessons. And the news about the stress relief and wellness benefits it can offer has provided more than enough reason to take the first step.
100 Years of Experience
The Clavinova Connection, a music-making and wellness program, applies Yamaha’s century of piano and educational expertise in both group and individual instruction. The program unlocks the vast wellness benefits of piano playing for adults of any age or skill level.
“We are so excited to be offering this program to the over 1,300 people who live at Brooksby,” said Nelda Quigley, director of resident life at Brooksby. “Four people who live at Brooksby are going to be facilitators and we have had over 60 people sign up. So many people have said they have always wanted to play the piano and now they can!”
The first time being offered on the east coast, the program uses a Yamaha Clavinova digital piano and a scientifically designed program of music and wellness exercises. Each member of a session group uses a Clavinova, and all of them are linked to another Clavinova used by the group facilitator. In a technological breakthrough, the facilitator can activate The Clavinova’s new SmartLIGHTStm, and transmit lighted notes from the facilitator unit directly to each student’s unit in the group.
There are no scales, notes, or repetitions—just follow the lights and enjoy the music you’re actually making yourself.
