Both the men and women at Brooksby like to get together for a game of billiards, but the women are taking it a step further.

And thanks to Len Yanofsky and Lois Krall, they are getting better and better.

“Some women saw me playing with the men, and thought I was a half decent pool player and asked if I would volunteer to help teach the women. I told them I’d be glad to help, and that’s how it all started. Now it’s Lois and myself teaching,” says Len.

Teaching Tuesdays

Every Tuesday, about six women get together for a teaching session. Len and Lois spend time with each student teaching the basics of the game. There are no games on Tuesdays, just learning. “A good way to practice hitting the cue ball in the center is to put an  empty beer bottle on thetable and try to send the cue stick through the bottle neck,” adds Len.

Game Time Thursday

Every Thursday, about nine or more seasoned players get together to test their skills against one another. “I still go on Thursdays. If someone doesn’t show up, I’ll fill in, if someone needs some help, I’ll take them to another table and help them,” says Len.

And as more people move to Brooksby, more people are signing up for women’s billiards. “People see our monthly calendar and now another woman signed up,” finishes Len.
