Game is Less About Cards and More About Having a Good Time

Since March of 2005, Brooksby residents have been playing Texas Hold ‘Em, currently the most popular poker game in the world. In Texas Hold ‘Em, each player is dealt two cards down. Bets are placed, then three cards are dealt up which are community cards that everyone uses to make their best hand. Bets are placed again and two more cards are individually dealt up with a round of betting after each, although at Brooksby, it’s really not about the small stakes betting.
“The concept is getting together, having a good time, enjoying each other’s company, and creating a little bit of an atmosphere of playing the game and learning how to play it,” says Bob Saltzberg, Brooksby resident and game organizer.
“I don’t play. I’m only interested in organizing it and managing it. I’m typically the dealer and I provide professional quality chips, cards, shufflers, and timers,” he adds.
Brooksby’s Texas Hold ‘Em consists of getting together twice a month in the evenings. “We’re playing tournament-style Texas Hold ‘Em, and there are a number of Texas Hold ‘Em games being played at Brooksby. The ladies also have a game,” says Saltzberg.
“I also run a Blackjack game here, too. I went out and purchased a professional Blackjack table, chips, and dealer shoe. We have a great time. It’s a lot of fun.”
