Most of Brooksby’s residents volunteer during the course of the year in some form or another, and most of it goes unpublicized. But during this holiday season, Brooksby residents turned it up a notch and made a real difference in people’s lives.

100 Turkeys

“This holiday season, one of the things the people at Brooksby got involved in was an organization called ‘Haven From Hunger.’ They’ve organized a walk to help raise money as part of a turkey drive. With the money they raised, 100 turkeys were sent to families in need along with plenty of canned goods,” says Thomas Cook,

Brooksby’s volunteer program coordinator. Brooksby also organized a toy drive with the same organization, collecting dolls, board games, and model planes and cars. “That’s what they’ve done through Brooksby, but there is so much more happening off campus that we would never know about,” adds Cook.

It Doesn’t Stop There

From Habitat for Humanity to local hospitals and soup kitchens, the people who live at Brooksby were out in full force. “Our residents leave here every day and we know through our contacts in the community that many are heading out into their respective communities to donate their time and money to causes important to them,” says Marisa Tazzini, Brooksby’s retirement counselor. “It’s a wonderful lesson for all of us.”
