Personal dreams and wishes can come in all shapes and sizes. And from the simplest to the most exotic, one nonprofit charity is trying to fulfill them all.

In just four years of existence, the Twilight Wish Foundation has provided fun escapes like hot air balloon rides, celebrity encounters, and trips to exotic locations for older adults across the nation. It has also provided many others with bare necessities like food, clothes, and lift chairs.

“Through wish granting and group celebrations, we try to give our seniors an unexpected ‘thank you’ for the time they unselfishly devoted to their families, charitable organizations, and the communities we all share,” says Cass Forkin, founder of the national nonprofit based in Fountainville, Pa.

“From those fantastic wishes to the most basic comforts, we try to cover them all. We just want to bring some joy and smiles into quiet, humble lives,” she says.

“I think the most moving thing is the wide variety of wishes that people have,” says Ann's Choice Director of Philanthropy Susan Abtouche. “There is no wish too big or too small that the Twilight Wish Foundation doesn’t try to accomplish, and all of them are equally important.”

Every wish is different
Recently Ann's Choice partnered with the Twilight Wish Foundation to help further their goal of supporting older Americans. Erickson has sponsored their efforts, and a number of Ann’s Choice residents currently volunteer their time to the charity.

Executive director of Ann’s Choice, Joe LoCascio, is helping with the Twilight Wish Foundation’s upcoming silent auction event. “It’s just such a worthy cause,” he says. “They are helping those who have put others first for their whole lives and never wanted anything in return. It’s nice to be able to return the favor.”

Humble beginnings
The idea of starting a charity struck Forkin when she was out to lunch with her daughter.

“I saw a table of ladies with white hair, and it was obvious they were friends catching up and treating themselves to a small lunch out,” Forkin says. “So I asked the waitress if I could pick up their check for the $4.99 buffet. After they insisted that the waitress tell them who did it, one of the ladies came over and gave me a huge hug and said, ‘I didn’t know there were still people like you out there.’ And that just stuck with me for months.

“In the months following, I did some research and found there was nothing out there for the joy or morale of the people who have done so much for us. That needed to change.”

Forkin founded the foundation four years ago and has fulfilled 810 wishes to date.

A chance to celebrate
The Twilight Wish Foundation will host its main fundraising event, “Night of 111 Stars,” Saturday, November 10 with the help of Ann’s Choice volunteers. The formal event will include dinner, music, and a silent auction. All proceeds will go directly to the charity and its goal of fulfilling wishes.
