It was a night of fun and cheer, and it was all for a good cause.
Ann’s Choice recently hosted its Fourth Annual Gala and raised more than $100,000 for the community’s Benevolent Care Fund in the process.
“This is the biggest party of the year at Ann’s Choice,” Susan Abtouche, Ann’s Choice director of philanthropy, explains. “Add to that the fact that much of this is resident-run and all of the proceeds help a very worthy cause, and you can see why the Gala is something special.”
A world of inspiration
The theme of this year’s Gala was “Around the World in Eighty Days,” featuring rooms inspired by the styles of San Francisco, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, China, and Morocco.
“The theme was a group idea but something we thought we could have a little fun with,” says Edith McLay, decorating committee chair and Ann’s Choice resident.
McLay explains that residents created many of the decorations, including grand murals, huge wooden arbors, and hand-sewn tents. More than 50 residents pitched in their talents to create the elaborate decorations. “When I hear that you have a talent, I want to use it,” she says.
Fun for all
Whether it was good food, music, or socializing, there was something for everyone at this year’s event. Two bands provided the entertainment—The Society Music Makers, a 17-piece band; and The Topics, a group that plays a variety of music, including the sounds of the 1950s.
The elaborate decorations, sumptuous food, and great music kept guests enjoying themselves into the late hours of the night. “There wasn’t an empty spot on the dance floor,” McLay says.
