When classical Indian dance is performed, it is said to be a way of connecting the spiritual life with the body.
But last month it served another purpose. It connected the Erickson community of Ann’s Choice with the students of its home town in Warminster, Pa.
Two can benefit
Recently, Ann’s Choice residents created the Support Our Youth committee to nurture the connection between the community and the surrounding Warminster township.
The committee offers a night of entertainment, while at the same time enabling Ann’s Choice community members to support the students’ endeavors.
“I like to view our school district’s relationship with Ann’s Choice as mutually benefical,” William Tennent High School teacher Kristen V. King says. “Our students have the opportunity to share their talents and academic efforts for a warm and welcoming audience in a beautiful environment, and we hope the audience enjoys our presence there as much as we do.”
A memorable experience
Mary John was one of the students performing an Indian dance at Ann’s Choice this past month. The performance was the culmination of John’s senior project required by the Centennial School District and the Pennsylvania State Department of Education.
“I went into it not really having any expectations,” John says. “I was really just hoping that the residents enjoyed what they saw.” And they did. John says, “It was a really good time.
And it was a pleasure to meet everyone. They were so kind to let us perform for them. Afterward, they actually kept asking if I had anything more, any different dances I could share with them.”
She continues, “It was a good experience. It gives people an opportunity to interact and meet others in the community they might not normally have the chance to.”
