Would you pay an extra 24%? Well if you live in the Philadelphia area, it’s quite possible that you have done just that. And it doesn’t end there.

According to a 2006 report by the American Chamber of Commerce Researchers Association, living in Philadelphia is more expensive than the national average. City residents are paying 24% more for goods, housing, groceries, utilities, health care, and other miscellaneous expenses.

With no end in sight to the rising costs, many are finding that choosing Ann’s Choice in Bucks County or Maris Grove in Delaware County has been the smartest financial decision they’ve ever made.

Bang for the buck
“It’s a great value for the money,” Maris Grove Resident Jean VanVeen says about the community. She lived in Delaware for years before moving to Ann’s Choice. Later, she decided to move closer to family and moved to Maris Grove.

“Coming from Delaware, I heard everything was expensive in Pennsylvania,” VanVeen says, “But Erickson communities are a great value for the money.”

Residents like VanVeen pay one monthly service package plus their telephone bill. The package includes gas, electric, cable television, property taxes, maintenance of your appliances and the grounds, and one meal a day in any of the community’s restaurants.

Resort living at pauper prices
Maris Grove and Ann’s Choice boast many of the same amenities and services you would find at an exclusive resort, including a swimming pool, a Fitness Center and their very own restaurants. Many of the most popular features are open to residents without extra charges. Unlike a luxurious resort, however, both communities provide these amenities and services at a value you may not have thought possible.

Blanche Volpe, a resident of Ann’s Choice for four years, says, “I love my home here. I feel it’s very comfortable in every respect, and financially it’s a breeze to handle. I realized that, for everything you get with your monthly service package, Erickson communities are a great value.”

Looking for more?
Erickson offers plenty of extras, too. But in contrast to many other retirement communities that charge you for the services you don’t want or need, like housecleaning or health care, Erickson’s financial plan is simple and straightforward. In order to keep costs down, Ann’s Choice and Maris Grove allow you to choose which, if any, additional services you would like to take advantage of on a fee-forservice basis.

Raymond Good, a resident of Ann’s Choice since 2003, says, “Everything you really need is included in your monthly service package, but it’s nice knowing that the extras are there is you ever decide you want them.”

And life at an Erickson community has remained a consistently good value. “Prices are about the same as when I moved in. And it was on par with what I was paying at my other house.” He adds, “But I’m not sure what I would be paying today, the way taxes and other costs have gone up.”

Life, simplified
The monthly service package was a welcome change to VanVeen because “It seemed like every bill you payed had a service fee tacked on top of it. It was getting out of control. I like the convenience of writing one check and having everything taken care of.”

Having lived in both Ann’s Choice and now Maris Grove, Van Veen said, “You definitely get a lot for your money here. From the great meals to the maintenance-free aspect— you don’t have to worry about a thing. It’s affordable, easier to budget, and way more convenient.”
