Ah, September . . . a great time to enjoy Ann’s Choice’s numerous amenities, including 103 breathtaking acres of beautiful, meticulous landscapes during the warm late-summer days. That is, of course, unless it’s between 1-4 pm on Sundays. Then you might find a nest of residents tailgating at Lincoln Financial Field or in front of big screen TVs in the two clubhouse lounges to watch their beloved Philadelphia Eagles begin another exciting season.

“I have to say we have some of the most fervent Eagles fans anywhere,” says Marie Dmoch, an Ann’s Choice retirement counselor. “Last year was a disappointment, but this year is another new season of hope. Many residents are already looking forward to some fun-filled Sundays of Eagles football.”

The staff at Ann’s Choice goes out of its way to accommodate the community’s fanaticism over the Eagles. When the Eagles went to the Super Bowl in 2004, the staff held a wild Super Bowl party in one of the restaurants. The event was so big that Eagles cheerleaders and Swoop the Mascot were there. It was even highlighted on Fox News!

The Eagles’ Two Biggest Fans
Of the many fervent Eagles fans at Ann’s Choice, perhaps the two biggest are resident May Lukens and Robin Kaufold, Ann’s Choice director of general services. Both are Philly sports fan through and through. But their hearts belong to the Eagles. “I’ve been a season-ticket holder since 1949,” says May. “We won the NFL Championship two years in a row then in 1948 and 1949. We had a great team with Hall of Fame coach Earle ‘Greasy’ Neale and Hall of Fame running back Steve Van Buren.

“It’s been too long since we won a championship (1960), but I’m always proud of the team,” she says. “Now that we don’t have T.O. (Terrell Owens), I think we’ll have a team focused on winning and not distractions.”

Robin agrees. “I am looking forward to the Eagles avenging last season and reclaiming the NFC title,” she says. “I’m also looking forward to the defense becoming an elite defense. I want our opponents to fear our defense!”

How big of a fan is Robin? Well, so big that she named her dog after her alltime favorite player, former Eagles great Duce Staley, now with the Steelers.

“Duce did it all including special teams. For many years he was the Eagles only offensive weapon,” she says, “I wish he were back on the Eagles!”
